Wd 320G Drive and my MAC not made in heaven

I have a Macbook Pro, and I bought a portable WD 320G drive to hold my photos. I have  148G drive in the Mac which never seems to have enough space. Anyway when I plug in the WD it always hangs and I can’t use it after being plugged in a bit. blah.
