What to do, what to do.

I couple of years ago I started to build my own personal editing studio. Editing in terms of photography and video(Not Film). While I have not incorporated yet. I did get a few a projects under my belt. Things have changed in my life, new woman, changes to the house. I also needed to move around the office. I Move my workstation cabinet into the corner out of the way. The result however was a difficult task of booting up and accessing the various inputs and out puts for the video. If anything happened I had to take apart my desk and get to the workstation. That happened(Windows), firewire card no longer responded, plugging in my camera for HD transition so not an option. I decided to move the innards to a new desktop chassis from the 3U rack mounted chassis. The plan was to move the cabinet to office and repurpose the 3U for something else. Maybe a very large ZFS ISCSI storage array. Ah the best laid plans, I went to my favorite store best buy. Purchased nice new cool looking mid-tower. I used to build computers in the old days. I started when I was six. It seems I had forgotten a few things. Like checking to make sure the motherboard would fit. Because it didn’t. I now need to find and EEB 12×13″ desktop chassis for my Tyan S2895.

Update: Got another chassis from PC Warehouse. They never let me down. I have one issue with my SCSI drives being 80pin vs. 68pin RAID controller. I had drives in an enclosure and with the new case that wasn’t an option. I should have the converts in a day or so.

Update: No SCSI adapters today. Have to wait, another day.

Customer Service

As every company in business knows customer service is important. As every business knows to stay in business you need great products and great customer service. You can’t only have one.

Yesterday I headed out on my errand run. I needed a new Filing cabinet for my office. I have decided to work on my organizational skills. I made short stop at my local Best Buy(On Twitter @eatontownbb). I picked up a powermat charger for Juli’s cell phone and a few DVD’s(Blu-Ray) I wanted to watch. As I was walking out, the gentleman in front of me commented to his three children(1 Son, 2 daughters).

“I really like this Best Buy, I was get good service and they have good people working here.” The son nodded to his dad. I have to agree, as my friends know me. I love Best Buy. It is clean, organized and I have never met a rude person working there.

By contrast, on my second stop of the Staples.

I went there to pick up my file cabinet. I walked to the back to look at their section. I was looking for a sturdy cabinet as the one I had was cheap and won’t hold the hanging files. I wasn’t going to make that mistake again. So I found the cabinet I wanted wide low and sturdy. It was not a one person lift. I went up front to find someone to help with. They box clearly said “Team Lift”. I showed the gentleman the one I wanted. He then asked me where my cart was. I looked at for a second and said, “You can’t fit that in your plastic shopping cart. It is to big and to heavy to lift that high. Do you have a cart?”, his response “Yea let me find one.” After returning with the cart, he helped me slide the box on the cart and he wheeled it to the front. After I paid for it. I had the pleasure of having been left to figure out a way to “Team Lift” this box by myself into the trunk of my car.

In ending I would like to thank Staples for a nice a nice file cabinet. I would also like to thank them for allowing me to “Team Lift” by myself into my trunk where I jammed my finger. It hurt like hell, but I am fine. Now I should say the cashiers were very nice and I even got a hello and smile as returned the the cart. As for the gentleman who helped me. I am sure you didn’t want to lift yourself, neither did I. We could have “Team Lifted” it.

Tried out a new recipe I saw on Anthony Bourdain

Was watching reruns of Anthony Bourdain. The show was in Egypt and they had a dish that I thought I would try for Juli.

Lentil
chickpeas
pasta
rice
onions

So far it was awesome. I will update again when I remember how I actually cooked everything. Sorry but that is me.

My brother picked the 3G S too. Got him up and running. He also picked up the mophie pack. It gives out about 240 hours of charge. I wish it hade a belt clip like my incase had. Which I gave to my brother.

20 minutes getting the iPhone 3G S 32G Black

Have to say getting the new phone was a piece of cake. I reserved the phone the day Apple made the announcement at WWDC. I was  a little concerned since it didn’t provide me an actual date. I called the morning of the released and confirmed they had it reserved. I ran down Apple for fear of long lines. There were two lines. first lines had about twenty people in the line. They other was empty, I figured that lines for normal entry into the store. It wasn’t after about 5 minute in line I overheard someone say it was for reserved phones. I jumped the divider, handed my license and two minutes later I was walking into the store to get the phone. So in all I was at the store for about twenty-five minutes.

Just got the iPhone 3G S 32G Black

have to say I am glad I did. I got the phone for a few reason.

1) 32GB space – I like to carry around a lot of different style of music so depending on the day I can listen to what ever I like. Then when I have Juli with me she can listen to her electronic dance.
I can also bring my photography with me to show friends and family.

2) Video – now I can take quick video’s of my friends being goofy.

3) Speed – always need speed!

I have almost everything configured back to the way I like it. I also signed up for mobileMe and can now track and wipe my phone assuming is it is even turned on. Next up, resync with my car and Juli’s car.

DoD CAC and Apache

Came across this little blog post about apache config with DoD CAC.

techmiso.com

Worked like a champ for me with Apache2.2 and Solaris 10 X86. Now onto to user authentication and access control with this configuration.
